رفّ الرياضيات يبدأ قبل الأرقام: نفرز بالألوان، ونقارن الكبير والصغير، ونعرف كم من نظرة واحدة، ثمّ نلمس كلّ شيء ونعدّه مرّة واحدة. الرقم المكتوب يأتي بعد أن يعرف الطفل ماذا يعني. معظم هذه الأوراق تحتاج إلى أشياء حقيقيّة في اليد: ملاعق، حبّات، أحجار. ابدأ بورقة الفرز بحسب اللون إن كان طفلك يردّد الأعداد ولا يعدّ الأشياء بعد، وانتقل إلى أوراق العدّ باللمس حين يلمس كلّ شيء مرّة.

The maths shelf starts before numerals: sort by colour, compare big and small, see how many at a glance, then touch each thing once as you count. The written numeral comes after the child knows what it means. Most of these sheets want real things in the hand: spoons, beads, stones. Start with the sort-by-colour sheet if your child recites numbers but does not yet count objects, and move to the touch-and-count sheets once each thing gets one touch.
