How the fifteen minutes go
The five steps on this sheet, in the order a child meets them. This is what you will actually be doing, not a description of the method.

Look at these three. What is the same? What is different?
اُنْظُرْ إِلَى هَذِهِ الثَّلَاثَةِ. مَا الْمُتَشَابِهُ؟ وَمَا الْمُخْتَلِفُ؟

Listen
Your grown-up says each one: بـ … تـ … ثـ.
يَقُولُ لَكَ الْكَبِيرُ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ: بـ… تـ… ثـ.

Explore
Trace the shape three times. No dots yet, just the boat.
تَتَبَّعِ الشَّكْلَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ. بِلَا نِقَاطٍ بَعْدُ، الْقَارِبُ فَقَطْ.

Try
Now add the dots. One below for ب. Two above for ت. Three above for ث.
الْآنَ ضَعِ النِّقَاطَ: نُقْطَةٌ تَحْتُ لِلْبَاءِ، نُقْطَتَانِ فَوْقُ لِلتَّاءِ، ثَلَاثٌ فَوْقُ لِلثَّاءِ.

What to say, word for word
You do not have to invent the words. Everything in quotation marks is written to be read aloud exactly as it is, fully vocalised, so the pronunciation is decided for you. The grey line under each is what to watch for while you say it.

قلم رصاص وقلم ملوّن مختلف للنقاط. اللون المختلف هو الدرس كلّه: الشكل واحد، والنقاط هي الفرق.

«اُنْظُرْ إِلَى هَذِهِ الثَّلَاثَةِ. مَا الشَّيْءُ الْمُتَشَابِهُ؟ وَمَا الْمُخْتَلِفُ؟»
غطِّ النقاط بإصبعك، ثم ارفع الإصبع. هذه الحركة وحدها تُري الطفل أن الشكل واحد.

«اِسْمَعْ: بـ… تـ… ثـ.»
انطق كلًّا منها مرة واحدة، ببطء، مع وقفة قصيرة بينها. لا تُطِل ولا تُغنِّ الأصوات.

«ارْسُمِ الشَّكْلَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ. بِلَا نِقَاطٍ بَعْدُ، الْقَارِبُ فَقَطْ.»
دعه يتتبّع القارب وحده أولًا. النقاط تأتي بعد أن تستقرّ اليد على الشكل.

قل كلّ حرف واترك له وقت وضع نقطته قبل أن تنتقل إلى التالي.

«هَلْ فِي اسْمِكَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْحُرُوفِ؟ أَرِنِي.»
اسمه أقوى كلمة يعرفها. ربط الحرف باسمه يثبّته أكثر من عشر تكرارات.
Watch for
لاحظ مكان النقاط لا عددها فقط. نقطة الباء تحت السطر، ونقاط التاء والثاء فوقه.
They have got it when
إذا وضع النقاط الثلاث في مواضعها الصحيحة وسمّى الحروف الثلاثة، فقد فهم.
Never do this
لا تُدخل حرفًا رابعًا اليوم مهما بدا متحمّسًا. ثلاثة حروف في صفحة واحدة هو الحدّ.
Three levels in the same pack

If they get stuck
Draw only the shape ten times with no dots at all. Dots are a separate day if needed.
Common mistakes
- Dots on the wrong side, the single most common Arabic error and the reason stroke comes before dots.
- Drawing the dots as part of the shape rather than after it. Finish the boat, lift the pencil, then dot.
When they finish early
Find ب ت ث on any Arabic packet in the kitchen and say which is which.
