What my face says

Before you start
Three moments, no test
- 1
If they get stuck
Another day
What is worth noticing

What is on the sheet
Left column, four faces, large and one per box: Right column, four causes to match them to: أَصْدِقَاء (friends arriving), مَطَر (rain), مُكَعَّبَات (blocks), عَاصِفَة (a storm). Space between the columns for a drawn line, and a note that the grown-up reads what happened, not in the printed order.
Skill: Matching a feeling to the situation that caused it. You will need: nothing at all. Your role: read aloud. Prints well in black and white.
How the activity runs
Every sheet follows the same five moves, in this sheet’s own words. Read them once before you sit down; they are what page 1 asks the child to do.
- 1
Wonder
I can say why a face looks like that.
- 2
Listen
Your grown-up reads what happened. Only listen.
- 3
Explore
Which face goes with it? Draw a line between them.
- 4
Try
If you choose a different face, say why. Your reason counts.
- 5
Share
Has one of these happened to you?
One sheet, three ways to pitch it
Nothing to print twice. The same page is made gentler or harder by what the adult says and how much of it is used.
Support
If the sheet is new or the child is tired
Two pairs only: laughing and sad.
Core
The sheet as printed
All four.
Challenge
If it was easy, or on the second day
Add a fifth line of your own: something that happened this week.
This sheet is also part of the main library under its subject shelf.
