Listen and swap roles

Before you start
Three moments, no test
- 1
If they get stuck
Another day
What is worth noticing

What is on the sheet
Four numbered picture cards in two rows, numbered from the right: Two animals come back from the first sheet beside two new ones. No words printed. One line at the top says
Skill: Listening, matching a name to its picture, and giving the word to someone else. You will need: nothing at all. Your role: read aloud. Prints well in black and white.
How the activity runs
Every sheet follows the same five moves, in this sheet’s own words. Read them once before you sit down; they are what page 1 asks the child to do.
- 1
Wonder
I can hear a name, point to it, and then choose a word for you.
- 2
Listen
Your grown-up names the four animals, saying the د in دُبّ clearly, then says one name.
- 3
Explore
Point to the picture.
- 4
Try
Another name, then another.
- 5
Share
Now you choose: say a name and your grown-up has to find the picture.
One sheet, three ways to pitch it
Nothing to print twice. The same page is made gentler or harder by what the adult says and how much of it is used.
Support
If the sheet is new or the child is tired
Start with the two animals the child knows, قِطّ and كَلْب, then add the new two.
Core
The sheet as printed
All four names, then swap roles once.
Challenge
If it was easy, or on the second day
Swap roles for the whole game: the child gives all the words and checks the grown-up's answer.
