The parent guide for this sheet

Print page 1 for your child and read this guide on your phone. How we play together, and why

Before you start

  1. 1

    Parent prompt

  2. 2

    Parent prompt

  3. 3

    Parent prompt

Watch for

If they need help

If they want more

What is on the sheet

Three labelled home boxes, الرَّفُّ (the shelf), الصُّنْدُوقُ (the box), السَّرِيرُ (the bed). Below, five cut-out toy pictures with their words: مُكَعَّبَات (blocks), لُعْبَة (a toy hammer), طَبْل (a drum), قِطَار (a train), كُرَة (a ball). The instruction says to join each toy to its home and then really put it there, and a note says there is no single right answer: the answer is your own house.

Skill: Sorting by where something belongs rather than by what it is. You will need: the toys that are actually on the floor. Your role: observe. Prints well in black and white.

How the activity runs

Every sheet follows the same five moves, in this sheet’s own words. Read them once before you sit down; they are what page 1 asks the child to do.

  1. 1

Wonder

Choose a home for a few toys and put them back together.

  2. 2

Listen

Where does each one live in YOUR house?

  3. 3

Explore

Draw a line from each to its home. Then go and put it there.

  4. 4

Think

Was there one you did not know where it lives? Decide now.

  5. 5

Share

Look at the floor. That was you.

One sheet, three ways to pitch it

Nothing to print twice. The same page is made gentler or harder by what the adult says and how much of it is used.

Support

If the sheet is new or the child is tired

Three things, two homes.

Core

The sheet as printed

Five things.

Challenge

If it was easy, or on the second day

Give a home to something that has never had one.
