Listen
Watch your grown-up draw one of each, slowly, top to bottom.
شَاهِدِ الْكَبِيرَ يَرْسُمُ وَاحِدًا مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ، بِبُطْءٍ، مِنْ فَوْقُ إِلَى تَحْتُ.

Explore
Trace the grey lines with your finger first. Then the crayon.
مَرِّرْ إِصْبَعَكَ عَلَى الْخُطُوطِ الرَّمَادِيَّةِ أَوَّلًا، ثُمَّ الْقَلَمَ.

What to say, word for word
You do not have to invent the words. Everything in quotation marks is written to be read aloud exactly as it is, fully vocalised, so the pronunciation is decided for you. The grey line under each is what to watch for while you say it.
Before you start
قلم سميك أو طباشير شمعية. الأسماك الرفيعة تُتعب اليد الصغيرة، والقلم السميك يصحّح المسكة وحده.

«بَعْضُ الْخُطُوطِ تَقِفُ، وَبَعْضُهَا يَنَامُ. أَيُّهَا الْوَاقِفُ؟»
أشِر إلى خطّ واقف وخطّ نائم، ثم اصمت وانتظر جوابه.

Listen
«شَاهِدْنِي. مِنْ فَوْقُ… إِلَى تَحْتُ.»
ارسم خطًا واقفًا واحدًا فقط، ببطء شديد، وقل «من فوق… إلى تحت» وأنت ترسم. مرة واحدة تكفي؛ التكرار يُلهي.

«مَرِّرْ إِصْبَعَكَ عَلَى الْخَطِّ الْمُنَقَّطِ أَوَّلًا. ثُمَّ الْقَلَمَ.»
الإصبع قبل القلم دائمًا. الكتف والذراع يتعلّمان الشكل قبل أن تتعلّمه الأصابع.

لا تصحّح أثناء الرسم. اترك اليد تكمل الخط إلى نهايته.

اجعله هو من يسمّي الخط. التسمية هي الدليل على الفهم.
Watch for
راقب الاتجاه لا الشكل: الخط الواقف يبدأ من الأعلى، والنائم من اليمين لليد العربية.
They have got it when
إذا رسم ثلاثة خطوط في الاتجاه الصحيح دون أن تذكّره، فقد فهم.
Never do this
لا تمسك يده لتقود القلم. ارسم أنت من جديد ببطء، ودعه يحاول بنفسه.
Three levels in the same pack
Print the one that fits today. Same skill, three depths — and on this sheet they differ like this.
Support
Trace only. Six thick dotted lines, very short.
Fewer items, more pictures, hints included, parent reads the instructions.
Core
Trace four, then draw two alone.
The standard task, recognition, practice and explanation.
Challenge
Draw a ladder using both kinds of line together.
Open-ended. Explain why, make your own example, use it somewhere new.

The same guide that is printed on the back page, so you can read it before you decide to print anything.
The answers
No answers to mark. Direction is the whole point: vertical strokes start at the TOP, horizontal ones start at the RIGHT for an Arabic hand.
If they get stuck
Draw it in the air together first, whole arm, ten times. Paper comes after the shoulder knows the shape.
Common mistakes
- Drawing bottom-to-top. Gently restart rather than pointing it out.
- Gripping too hard. A thicker crayon fixes more than a reminder does.
When they finish early
Find standing lines and lying lines around the house, door frames, table edges.
